It’s almost that time again . . . time for the annual Houston Rodeo World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Cook-off. Mark your calendar for February 23rd – 25th. 73rd Annual Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Parade

Every February, Houston celebrates our western heritage. On Feburary 25^th, get out your cowboy hats and dust off your boots and head for downtown Houston for the 73^rd annual Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Parade. Clay Walker will be this year’s Parade Grand Marshal. The parade will include marching bands; city, county and State officials on horseback; colorful floats; and lots and lots of riders on horseback, as well as covered wagons. Houston Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup and Best Bites Competition

METRO HOV Toll Lanes Open on the South Section of Interstate 45

Effective February 13^th, METRO debuts its first high-occupancy toll lanes on the southern section of Interstate 45. The toll lanes will run from Dixie Farm Road to Dowling Street. These lanes allow for solo drivers to use the high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes (normally reserved for vehicles with two or more occupants) for a fee, which will vary between $1-$4.50, depending on the time of day. These HOV toll lanes will still remain closed to solo drivers during the hours of 7:00 – 8:00 a.m. and from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. An EZ tag is required to pay the toll.

Departure of Beloved Byzantine Frescoes

Whether you have visited the Byzantine Fresco Chapel on St. Thomas University’s campus frequently, or never been, now is the time to visit the much loved frescoes which the chapel was designed and built for before their permanent departure back to their point of origin – Cyprus. The chapel is open for viewing (normal hours – 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday – Sunday) until March 4^th, at which time the chapel will be deconsecrated in a special public ceremony. Tutankhamun: The Golden King & the Great Pharaohs – Museum of Fine Arts Houston

In Houston until April 15^th, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to visit the Museum of Fine Arts Houston for the Tutankhamun exhibit. The show features over 100 artworks, most of which are being shown in the U.S. for the first time. Over half of the treasures come directly from the tomb of King Tutankhamun, with the remaining pieces being objects associated with the most significant rules of the 30 dynasties that reigned in Egypt for over a 2,000 span.
